Colt introduced the Colt Officers in 1984. This is a compact model of the Colt 1911-A1 with a reduced length and height. The Officers ACP has a total length of 184mm (7 ¼ in), so that is significantly smaller than the 1911 A1 or the Government 216mm ( 8 ½ in) or Commander 203 mm (8in). The height is particularly reduced. The Officers ACP has a height of 127 mm (5in), approximately 13 mm (1/2 in) smaller than the Government or Commander. This did have an effect on the magazine capacity: 6 cartridges in .45ACP caliber instead of the already fairly limited 7 rounds. The officers ACP was initially available in two finishes: in mat black anodized or in an electrolytic nickel finish. The short barrel has a clear trumpet shape, which meant that the barrel centered well in the slide. In addition, a fixed rear sight was used with a triple aspect night sight. This is a good term for the two white dots on either side of the opening of the front sight and one white do not the bead. To ensure that the locking system of the pistol works well, a double recoil spring was used. Furthermore, the housing of the main spring was flat and the grips were lengthened to a beavertail. In terms of safety system, the Officers ACP had several systems, with grip safety, locking safety (the pistol cannot be fired when the slide is not completely shut), obviously a safety catch and automatic firing pin safety. In 1988, Colt made an Officers Match conversion set in stainless steel. This set consisted of a stainless steel slide , a barrel, recoil springs, and a recoil spring guide and an Officers cartridge ejector. If these parts were interchanged with those of the Gold Cup, this produced an Officers ACP on a Gold Cup frame, so that it had a magazine capacity of 7 rounds. These sets are very popular collector's items of nowadays. Colt also made several models of the Officers ASP, viz. in stainless steel.
